Return to Normal

Well folks, life at the Tempesta residence is returning to normal since Brooks was picked up this afternoon. What this means in a nut shell is a few things. The gates in the doorways have been taken down. We don't have to hide in the computer room or bedroom to escape the little guys. But most of all, it means that ALL the attention given to the pets is given to me and Coco. NO SHARING!!!!

I can't complain about a lack of attention. You were a little bit gruff at times and when you growl, the folks don't like to get down with you. I'm so laid back that they fall all over me, even when they had all those puppies. Brooks was the only puppy that we really got to play with and he was starting to grow on me, once he stopped trying to nurse. That was the big disadvantage to looking like his mother.

OK, I'll admit that it felt good to have him tailing us up to the woods. It reminded me of the times we'd venture up in the woods with his Mom. Of course, bowling him over during play was a big ego booster, if the folks didn't catch us.

Ah, yes, I did get yelled at a few times for treating him too roughly. Hey, if you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch. Isn't that what they say?

Yes, Coco, that's what they say, but it really doesn't apply here. He was just a little tyke trying to keep up with us. Have you forgotten what it's like to have the energy and enthusiasm of a puppy.

All of this is just so much chatter. I'll tell you what's on my mind. Our times in the swimming pool have been few and far between since the puppies arrived. Now that Brooks is gone, I'm waiting for the pool to be open to us a lot more often, and I mean A LOT MORE OFTEN!!! A few hours every day at least.

We will have to see what happens. I sauntered out to the family room, intending to take a quick nap on Brooks' bed, only to find out that it's already gone. Not everything about getting back to normal is positive. Just like when Freckles was here, when she got a cookie, we got a cookie. And when Brooks got a cookie, we got a cookie. You are going to have to hone your begging skills or we're going to waste away to nothing.

You called her Freckles, her name is now Molly, did you forget?

Yes, it was just a slip of the tongue. I know her name is Molly......... Molly. Molly. Molly. I've got it now.

Oops, gotta run, it's suppertime.......suppertime.......suppertime........

Labrador Psychology 101

Coco and I are cracking up over the events of the last couple of days. The puppies are starting to go to their new homes and the old man has been crowing about the smaller amount of poop that will be produced. with three puppies gone he expected the "puppy output" to diminish by about a third. Hold on while I try to control myself, I'm laughing so much.

Yeah, that was what the old man thought. However, he didn't take the ingenuity of the lab pups into consideration. They knew that some of the mini pack was being moved to new quarters and figured that maybe it was because they were not "producing" enough. So.......they got together and decided that if they really tried, they could increase "output" by 50 to 60 percent. The result was that the amount of poop that had to be cleaned up this morning was about the same, or a little more, as before.

And......it's a riot watching the old man trying to scoop up the mess with all the pups clawing at his hands and stepping in the poop. I think it's a good thing that we Labs don't understand those words. A lot of this is working in our favor because I think that they appreciate us older, house broken dogs a lot more.

You all should be here to watch the show. I have to surpress my howling with glee as I'm sure it will only drive the old man berserk!

Life After Freckles

Hello from Jodie. Things are starting to get back to normal now that Freckles has moved to her new home. I think Freckles is going to be fine. The people who took her away were VERY friendly to me and Coco and you just know that people like that are fine. Of course, Coco and I are not shy about greeting guests, but some take it better than others.

Yup, everyone knows I'm a licker. It's something I've always done and I probably always will. Some people don't like it but Frank and Olive didn't mind a bit and I really like that in people. We had a good thing going with Freckles. She was an excellent pack member and she was fun to be with. Another good thing is that she had a deep, loud bark and when she wanted a cookie, she let the folks know. They were very free with the cookies while she was here, trying to fatten her up a bit. Well, when she got a cookie, we got a cookie. Nice, huh?

I have to admit that I may have added a few ounces while Freckles was here. I did notice that her dish always held more food than mine and Coco's, but that was because she was eating for nine, at least at first. I also noticed that the cookie train has slowed down quit a bit since Freckles left, but I'll not complain. Coco and I both hope to see Freckles again one day.

That, sounds good to me. We still have the puppies and all that goes with them. Most of the time we're separated so we don't get a good chance to play. When we do, they are a bit uncoordinated so we can't run too much. With all the canine bodies around here, the folks have been pretty good about giving us our normal share of attention. Horning in from time to time to make sure works too.

That's all for now from four legged duo at this address.

I Guess this is Good bye!!!

Today is my last day with my foster folks, Helen and Paul. It is with mixed emotions that I say good bye to my eight beautiful pups, my great friends, Jodie and Coco, and the folks that made this all possible.

From Freckles Blog 2

I will miss Helen and her attention and how she showed me how to play ball. We had some good times together and I'm sad.

From Freckles Blog 2

So, in a little while I'll be going home with Olive and Frank. I met them a couple of weeks ago and they seem like really nice people. I won't have Jodie and Coco, but I'll be getting ALL the attention there, with no other dogs or puppies to share in the affection.

The last few months have been very rough on me, but the last few weeks have been grand and I look forward to this new chapter in my life. I will do my best to make Olive and Frank very proud of me.

Bye to all,

Freckles

WOW!!! What a day!

What a day I had yesterday!!!! I heard Paul and Helen talking about taking me somewhere to have me tutored. Oh! Great! I thought. A young lady like me could use a little self improvement. Perhaps I was heading for obedience training, though they would be the first to admit that I’m a VERY obedient girl. Training to be a hunting dog??? I didn’t know.

So Paul got me in the car and we headed out, only to head up at the place that pokes and probes and gives me needles. What’s up, Doc? Perhaps I should say “What’s up, Vet?” Anyway, it wasn’t too bad at first as I met Diesel, a very handsome Boxer. Then, some lady came out and took my leash from Paul and led me out back.

More needles and soon my head was spinning. Then I slept, and slept, and slept. When I awoke sometime later I had the WORST hangover. Ugh. As time went on I gradually woke up more and more, but was still a bit “drunk” when Paul picked me up later in the day. I think I was glad to see him, but I’m not sure I showed it because I was still somewhat groggy. He took me home and I was glad to be there, but I was STILL not myself. I was afraid to lie down because I thought I’d never get back up, so I very slowly paced back and forth. That was quite a feat when you consider that I was walking like a drunken sailor. They offered me food and drink, but I couldn’t take anything. Finally, I did go to my bed and slept like a rock. I awoke my old self, famished and thirsty. Helen gave me food and drink and now I’m feeling quite good. I have a pinch in my tummy from time to time, but not too bad.

Helen and Paul were talking about my puppies and mentioned that when they get to their forever home they would also have to be tutored. At least that’s what I thought they said. At any rate, I’m having another great day at the Tempesta household with my puppies and my two BFF (Best Friends Forever), Jodie and Coco. More later.

Freckles.

It's Freckles again!

Hello again, up until today I've been having a SUPER time, I mean absolutely great! Paul and Helen have treated me so well and my puppies are growing by leaps and bounds. We even play together now that they are so active. Even Jodie is taken with my puppies.

From Freck's Blog 2

From Freck's Blog 2

The puppies have their periods of hyper-activity quickly followed by periods of deep sleep. They find that a toy or two is very comforting.

From Freck's Blog 2

From Freck's Blog 2

As I was saying, things were going great. I spent over an hour running around the pool with Jodie and Coco, although I didn't actually get in the pool, except once a little by accident. Then, Helen took me outside to play ball. This is new to me and at first I had no idea what she had in mind. I have watched Jodie and Coco play fetch, but I didn't think I could do it. Well, with Helen's coaching I soon caught on and now I fetch like a pro. As long as I don't have to compete with the others for the ball. They are much too zealous about running after and getting the ball.

Then, the roof fell in on me! Helen decided to waterboard me! I thought we were getting along just great when she subjected me to something she call a BATH! Ugh. How Nasty!

From Freck's Blog 2

You can see from this picture that Paul picked me up and placed me in the tub. Then Helen poured water and stuff over me. I didn't like that at all! Finally the torture was over and they rubbed me all over with towels and that wasn't so bad. I wouldn't want them to know, but it was actually pretty nice!

If I can get the computer away from Helen and Paul, I may be able to write again.

Hi! I'm Freckles

Hello folks, this is Freckles hijacking Jodie and Coco's web log. If you don't know me, here's a picture.

From Freckles Blog 2

As you can see, I'm a chocolate Lab much like Coco. In fact, we're often mistaken for each other around the house. I've gotta tell y'all that I am having the best time here!!! I've put on some weight and my puppies are all doing well.

From Freckles Blog 2

From Freckles Blog 2

From Freckles Blog 2

I know what you're thinking.......you've never seen such beautiful puppies. You are right! They have been excellent puppies, though we're starting to grow apart. You see, they are getting teeth, very sharp teeth and I am getting sore, very sore. Fortunately, Helen has them almost on all solid or semi-solid food and it saves a lot of wear and tear on the Mama.

I'm having a heck of a time. Just within the last day or so I have been admitted to "the pack". When Jodie and Coco are let out to do their business I'm allowed to go along without the leash. Oh, how we race up the back yard! Last night I actually scared up a rabbit. At least that's what Paul said. I've never seen a rabbit so I didn't know what it was for sure. I have so much room to roam in that it's unreal. The puppies are in a corral, but I can go in or out as I please, so I can have some quality time away from the pups.

I know that this is bad, but I've also been introduced to the BIG BED. Coco and Jodie have been getting up there all the time I've been here, but last night I was allowed up there and it's pretty nice. It gets a bit crowded with Coco, Jodie, Paul, Helen, AND me, but it's so nice to part of the family.

So for all of you who may have heard of me, I'm having the greatest time!!!!!

Perhaps I'll get a chance to hijack the blog again.

Lots of News

Howdy y'all!! Coco and I have a lot to tell you because a lot has happened since our last message. But first, we've agreed to get something off our chests. We don't really type the blogs you read. Coco and I gave it our best shot, but with paws that are more like swim paddles, it was impossible for us to use a typewriter or word processor.

Yeah, and we can't write either as we can't hold a pen.

True, true! Coco even tried to use her snout, but that's too big to type with and the keys got oh so sticky, ugh!

So we've been using a middleman who takes our dictation and types for us. It's not the perfect solution, but it sort of works, except he's been so busy lately that he has been hard to corral.

OK, the really big news is that we have a new family living with us. A day or two after vacation the folks disappeared for a few hours and returned with our NBF (New Best Friend) Freckles and a whole slew of puppies. Puppies are sort of like little dogs, but they don't play, they just eat, sleep, and do nasty in the house. Phew!

Freckles is the Momma and she and I hit it off right from the start. Jodie is a bit stuffy and she growls a bit, but you already know what a bitch SHE can be.

You will notice that Freckles and five of her puppies are Chocolate, just like me. There are three other puppies that are Black, like.........well I suppose like their Dad. Note that there are no Yellow puppies, as in Yellow Lab, like Jodie. This makes Jodie the odd one in the house and perhaps that's why she is in a mood.

Nonsense!!! I'm not in a mood, but have you noticed how much attention they get. A couples of high pitched squeals and the folks go running. I NEVER got that much attention, even when I had the place to myself. AND, I don't think that they are that cute. They've been here almost two weeks and it's only the last couple of days that they can move very well. And what was all that attention yesterday with the people from the paper. The big oaf with all the cameras must have taken 200 pictures of the little crawlers.

From Freckles Blog

From Freckles Blog

Well, I'm enjoying the little critters, and Freckles is a dear! You haven't noticed that we get all the meals and cookies that we used to get AND.....we also get a cookie when Freckles gets a cookie. Plus, the little critters are starting to take to Auntie Coco.

From Freckles Blog

Well, I admit that it's a lot more interesting around here with the new canines on the block. And I do worry about Freckles as she looks so beat from time to time.

From Freckles Blog

AND, I have to admit that I wouldn't want all those little ones chewing on ME all day. I don't know how that girl does it.

Well, she's a CHOCOLATE Lab, and everyone knows that chocolate labs are special.

I think you're spreading it on kind of thick so I'm going to sign off for a while. Later folks!

Swimming in Key West!!!!

Coco and I spent a wonderful time swimming at Dog Beach in Key West, Florida.

From Dogs in Key West

There were a number of dogs there and a lot of fine people as well. The water was very warm and as such was so much different than that of Labrador or Newfoundland where we also went swimming.

From Dogs in Key West

From Dogs in Key West

From Dogs in Key West
Jodie and I dashed in the water like a couple of otters. Most of the dogs were in and out of the water, but we were the only real water sprites. Now we've swum all around the country, from Maine to Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Sea of Cortez, the Pacific from San Diego to Washington state, and Labrador, and all the Maritimes of Canada.

Those of you who know Coco know what a prima donna she can be, sometimes a real pest! Well, in Key West there are some topless beaches and Coco insisted on going topless (sans collar). Eventually Dad took off her collar so she could dazzle the crowd. She was in and out of the water, shaking her head to show everyone that she had no collar on, what a hussy!

From Dogs in Key West

Oh what a feeling!!!! To be running and swimming freely without the confines of a collar. I think I'm going to try to find a string collar for those times when you have to wear a collar, but it can be revealing.

The thing is that we had such a grand time and we'll be in the Keys another week, so I'm sure we'll get another chance. I don't know, if it's not too crowded and the weather is just right,I just might, MIGHT try swimming without my collar.

We ain't afraid of no snakes

Hello Ya'll!!! I had my annual physical yesterday and got a very good report. My weight is good and my health is excellent. In addition to my normal shots, I got a vaccination for snake bites. Later in the day, Coco wnet to the Vets and got her snake vaccination, too.

Yup, no problem. The shot wasn't bad and besides, I love snakes!

Since we're going to Arizona for the winter..........wait a minute. You love snakes, Coco.

For sure!

How can you say that? You don't know any snakes.

A lot you know, I've loved snakes for years.

OK, I'll bite, what snakes do you love?

Well for starts, I just love Milk Bone Dog Biscuits, Meaty Bones, and especially table scraps.

You dufus!!!! Those are not snakes, they're SNACKS. Snakes are very thin legless animals that can kill you with a bite.

Are you sure about that?

YES!!! The reason for the shots is to protect us in case we should run across a poisonous snake when we're out west.

OK, maybe I don't really like snakes. But I sure do love snacks.

MAN IN THE HOUSE!! MAN IN THE HOUSE!!

Hello all! Jodie and I played host yesterday to Buddy, a male Lab-Bulldog mix and it was NEAT having a male in the house. He was only about 2/3 my size, but he was a bundle of energy. When I think of our situation, with me and Jodie spayed and Buddy neutered, his being male really didn't matter at all. Still, it was fun having a new dog in the house, even if it was for only one night.

From Buddy

From Buddy

Yup, all was going well until he wanted to "Mark" his spot on the coffee table. The old folks got him before the deed was done, but he ended up in the crate anyway. I have to admit that he was an amiable pooch and being in the crate didn't bother him at all. In fact, the only time his tail wasn't wagging was when we was asleep.

From Buddy

He was telling us about his situation. His owners in south Florida split up, with his Mom moving to Pennsylvania with her parents. After awhile, he stopped getting the care he used to get and became an "outside dog" chained to a tree and living in a doghouse. Then the "Dad" felt he could no longer take care of him and took him to the SPCA.

From Buddy

And that's when the dog poop hit the proverbial lawn. The Mom found out about it and wanted the dog with her and her 4 year old daughter. Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida picked him up and moved him along the "pipeline". Somebody named Sandy brought him part way where our old folks picked him up and he spent the night. Then, this morning they took him, (alone....they left me and Jodie home....hrump) up to Dunnellon Airport where he boarded a plane for Brunswick, GA. Can you believe that? In Brunswick he will board another plane for Florence, SC, where ANOTHER plane will pick him up and bring him further north. The plane rides are courtesy of a program called Pilots N Paws. This afternoon he should reconnect with his Mom. He's already a happy dog, I can't even imagine how happy he'll be later. Course, he'll have a 4 year old to play with. Wish the old folks would get a 4 year old for us.

I disagree, Coco, a 4 year old is too young. Pulled ears, kid playing in our food and water, not being able to rest when we want. Perhaps we can request an eight year old. That's about all for now. Back to our dreary life of swimming in the pool, playing fetch, eating, and sleeping. Ooh, this is making me so tired.

Me, too, Jodie. Coco here....over and out.

Thinking of our Vacation

We've been home for over a month and we sure like being home. There's the freedom of running around the yard without a leash. There's also the pleasure of getting in the pool almost every day. Not just the pool, but being blown dry and toweled off at the end. It's a real treat, believe me.

You're right Jodie, but it's also nice being home when we can go out whenever we want and come in whenever we want. When we're on the road, we sometimes have to wait a while before they stop and take us out. Then we're always on a leash. Often there are great smells at these "rest areas", but we're rushed along to do our business. At home, we also have a lot of nice smells as there are squirrels, birds, deer, raccoons and armadillos that often visit. We can take our time and smell as long as we want. Then, when we've had enough, or when it gets too warm, we go to the door and are let in immediately. I've got a nice fur coat and I really enjoy the air conditioning.

Here are some pictures of our 2009 Summer vacation. What memories!

OOPS! We did it again!!!

Yes, Jodie and I are in the doghouse again. The day started out fine, breakfast as usual and then we were let out to do our business. Of course we did what we had to do, but it was early and not hot, so we stayed outside for awhile. I am a dog and I have to do what my instincts demand. So I went back to the mushroom thing that smells so nice to me. A quick roll over the thing and I was smelling pretty good. Jodie came over and took a sniff and she did a roll over the smell too. AHHHH, it doesn't get any better than this.

All was fine until we went in. Then Mom had a conniption fit! I can't understand why she hates the smell of the mushroom. It's a natural smell. It's as natural as the green apple scent that SHE chooses to wash us with. I may bitch, after all, I am a bitch, but I enjoy a bath so the "punishment"is not much of a deterrent to us. A nice bath, a quick blow down, and a brisk rub with a towel. I hope that mushroom will still be there tomorrow.

What a Day!!!!

Today started earlier than normal and we had early access to the yard. As I was making my rounds of the "back forty" I discovered a most awesome scent. It was so good that it took my breath away and I'm sure that it's so because Mom took one whiff and it took her breath away, too. Then, for some reason, she took me outside and gave me a bath. Water and shampoo and a lot of brisk scrubbing. AAAHHHHH!

From Dogs

I was standing around minding my own business and Mom grabbed me after Coco and gave me a bath too. I admit that it was nice, but I didn't find the source of the aroma.

From Dogs

In the afternoon, the folks had company and Coco and I were completely ignored. Oh, the guests would pet us from time to time, but we got no attention from the folks. Though I have to admit that we got our supper on time, in fact, a tad early. Finally, when the guests left, we were let out to patrol the premises, chase away any squirrels, and keep the home safe.

Yup, and then we went back in the woods and I showed Jodie the place where I found the smell. I had a really good roll and Jodie got some on her too. AAAHHH, this was good. Then I decided to go in, and scratched the door to get someone to open it. Dad came to the door and he liked the smell too. In fact, I was only a foot or two in the door when it got to dad and it took his breath away. Next thing you know, I'm back outside getting ANOTHER bath. Twice in one day! Is this great or what. After Mom finished the bath, Dad took over and blew us down with the air compressor. This is where the fun ended because Mom took over again and put those weird drops in my ears. Wow, do I hate those drops. What do you think, Jodie?

I'm against the ear drops too. It ruins the experience of a perfectly good bath. There's another thing I've been thinking, Coco, that maybe the folks don't like the smell as much as we do.

Well, I can't agree with you there. That smell is SO AWESOME that they must appreciate it. You know, we smell like flowers now. Do you think we can find the smell in the dark later?

Oh, I KNOW I can find it, I'm just not too sure that we should. I heard Mom tell Dad that we're going back on the leashes tonight.

Just Waiting on Dad!

Yes. indeed!!! Jodie and I are just waiting for Dad to finish what he's doing to our pool so that we can go for a swim. These are the dog days of August, and us two dogs are making the most of it.
We're having a great summer after all. Up in the morning, we have breakfast and then go get the paper and come in for a treat. Play in the pool for a while, then chase the ball. Back in the pool for another stretch and then back to playing ball. SOOOOOOO good!

Actually, I'm the one who brings in the paper. Then I DESERVE a treat. The folks think that if I get a treat, Jodie should too, even though she does NOTHING for it. She's right about the pool, though,.....DEVINE.

AM I in the doghouse again?

We haven't been back home too long and I'm in trouble already. I mentioned earlier how nice it is to be home and free. We go out without a leash and we can investigate the whole yard. Occasionally I find something that smells a lot better than the green apple scented dog shampoo that Mom favors. This morning in my travels I found a source of eau de pew. It was so good that I rolled on both sides. Darn if the old man didn't notice. It was back outside under the hose to get another shampoo. I don't know if he realizes that I'm not averse to having another bath. Let me see..........there's water..........the shampoo...........the rinse.............the air hose blowdown........and the towel dry. The worst part would have to be the shampoo, but it doesn't sting my eyes and does smell pretty good. So, if the worst part is still pretty good, the whole idea of a bath is not punishment, but a treat. I wonder if I can find that spot tomorrow?

I think I may be a more refined Lab than Jodie, because I do not appreciate the rotten stink that she brings in the house. Oh, I'd like another drying and toweling, but I wouldn't lower myself to roll in some decaying carrion laying in the yard. I'm happy enough with the treatment I get after swimming. Besides, when Dad was outside washing her, Mom was inside scratching me. Ha!

Back in the Pool

Around 12:30 AM, Sunday, the motorhome pulled into the driveway and the door opened. Coco and I were coaxed to exit. Normally, Mom or Dad exits first and only after they reach the ground are we allowed to follow, and then only with a leash on. What a treat to just run out of the camper and run around free. Whee!

That's not the only treat, Jodie, being able to walk into the woods alone to do our business is nice also. I wonder how they would like to be led to the bathroom on a leash and urged to go with someone looking on. We had some good times on the road, but it's really great to be home.

From August 5

A REAL treat is getting back in the pool. The Dad has been working on this since Sunday and finally got it to the point where we can swim. You may not realize this, but I have greatly improved my fetching over the summer. Coco could always beat me to the ball in the water, but now I'm a formidable opponent. Sometimes I beat her to the ball and sometimes she beats me.

From August 5

I'll admit that Jodie can beat me to the ball on land, but the only time she beats me to the ball in the water is when I let her. I am like an otter in the water. Jodie does well enough on the surface, but has she ever gone to the bottom for a toy? Of course not! I, Coco, the pool otter, can cruise along the surface or swim to the bottom to get a toy. Sometimes we get to the ball at the same time. Jodie, tell them who gets the ball when it's a tie.

From August 5

OK, she gets the ball, but only because she goes crazy and nearly drowns me. I have to back away to save myself. And going to the bottom is no big deal. All she really does is get lots of water in her ears that requires Mom to put stuff in her ears. Phoey on that.

From August 5

If we're at the beach and all we do is swim, then I swim. If we're chasing the ball, then I mean to get the ball it's as simple as that.

One of the nice things about the pool is that after the dip, Dad blows us down with an air hose and that feels fantastic! Then, we get a great rubdown with fresh towels. We end up pretty clean and almost totally dry. It makes me feel invigorated, too.

Do I Look Bored???

From Maine

The answer is yes! I am bored! This road trip is getting a bit old. The last few places we stayed were near the water, but the water was off limits. The bi-peds don't care for the rain and fog, but they don't realize Jodie and I don't mind a bit. Rain, river water, ponds, lakes, sprinkler systems, road runoff, it doesn't mater, water is water.

I guess that you can see Coco is still a whiner. In fact, this campground was very empty, so we went out to play fetch shortly after this picture was taken. Of course, we had a minor problem with the old dude because he only had one yellow fuzzy ball. Ha!!! Just let him try to find it. Coco and I made an end run around the laundry and dropped the ball on the other side. He asked us to get the ball, but we didn't even listen. Course, he took us back in right then.

Mo' Swimmin"

We've been getting in a LOT more swimming at this campground in Nova Scotia. The last two time have been great because we had the water to ourselves. Today we found a new away to get EVEN MORE swimmin'. The secret is MUD. Yup mud. The old man has been taking us up the off-leash trail from time to time and we usually just run up the trail and back, up and back. This morning we discovered the sides of the trail. I found a little stream that ran alongside the trail and I went in, bit the old man didn't get upset. Of course I only got my feet wet.

Yes, Coco, you only had your feet wet. I discovered the mud. One quick jump and I was covered half way up my body. It was neat mud, too, black as tar! I thought that the old man would go to pieces, but I didn't even notice him react. The point is that instead of running the trail, doing our business, and then being brought back to the camper, we were brought to the lake and urged to go for a swim. There were no yellow, furry balls, but there was a stick thrown and that will also get a response from us. Coco is usually pretty good about fetching and dropping so the old man can throw again. This time Coco wouldn't let the stick go and she kept it away from him and me! We swam into the lake and I tried and tried to get the stick, but as I'd get close, Coco 'd turn around so the stick was out of reach. Bummer!

Tit for tat, Jodie, tit for tat. Keep away is usually your game, so I was just giving you a taste of your own medicine,Ha, Ha, Ha.

Swimmin"

Yay! Yay! We got to a new campground today and what a campground it is. Lots of kids and dogs. A real "off-leash" hiking trail and Ta-dah........a pond where we can also romp off leash. We hit the water with a speed you wouldn't believe. I can't remember if the water was cold or not, but it sure was wet. I don't think it was too cold 'cause there were a bunch of kids in the water.

Yup, I was thinking of introducing myself, but Mom kept throwing the ball and I kept chasing it. I don't know why I do that, but I do. Mom threw the ball over and over and over until I was completely worn out. A towel rubdown never felt so good. Even Jodie was dropping the ball for Mom and then chasing it back in the water. We had a busy time and the bed sure felt good.

Those Damn Ducks!

Coco and I got a chance to do some real swimming today and I ALMOST got myself a duck or two. My swimming has reached a new level and I was SOOOO close to a duck that I could almost taste her. Then, just as I was about snatch the duck, she flew away. FLEW, that's cheating! Later I was chasing down two and was getting VERY close. Then, one went to the left and one to the right. It was just enough to get me confused I watched one, then I turned to look at the other and then my only option was to turn around and swim for shore. I made it look like that was just what I had in mind so I wouldn't be embarrassed.

Jodie was out of her element chasing the duck. Oh, I chased them at first, but even a beagle knows that ducks and gees can fly and the best dog doesn't stand a chance of catching one in the water. You have to lurk in the bushes and wait for the duck to get close. Then, at the last possible moment, leap at the duck and grab it by the neck. Ya gotta get the neck, cause if you grab the body the duck will peck your eyes or pull your ears. I was having a ball chasing a stick. It's not the most fun, but the old man really digs the interaction and I do the fetching thing to please him. I also think it leads to more cookies and treats.

I heard the two-paws and I think we'll be visiting the river again, so we want to behave for the time being. You may have noticed that I've been very good the last few days because I'm pretty sure that they know it was me who ate all the pastry the other day.

I'm surprised you didn't get sick. Since that episode with those little fish, I've been keeping away from over indulging in foods. It's been a long day and I'm about ready to crash.

Me too. G'night Coco.

G'night Jodie.

Wow oh WOW, Water!!!

What a great time we had today. We'd been traveling in the motorhome for, like, hours, when the old man pulled into a new campground. Water in every direction! You could run around blindfolded and still find the water. Of course, they wouldn't let us out as the did some of the stuff they always do outside, but me and Jodie could see the water so close to the campsite. We decided to press the issue and take things into our own paws. The plan was to charge the door the next time it opened. We didn't have to wait long. When the old man opened the door, I put all my weight into it, with a little prodding from Jodie's cold nose. We caught the old man off guard and we were out! I ran a victory lap around the campsite with Mom trying to grab my collar. NO WAY! I was free and I was goind to stay that way. After taunting her for a second, I dashed around her and sped to the water. Jodie was right behind me running like a freight train out of control. WE HAD A BALL!

Indeed! It did work well. We were able to romp in the water and on the beach and Mom even came to play with us. There's a lot of driftwood and we played fetch and keep away. It was good fun and good exercise and we had a grand time. At least we were having a grand time until the leashes got connected and we got led back to the camper. While we were playing with Mom, the Dad set us up for a bath. One of the truths of playing in the water is that salt water means a bath, fresh water, not necessarily so. So it was baths with nice warm water all around, followed by a brisk rubdown with dry towels, Ain't life grand?

Observations from the Quadrapeds

We've kind of been laying low for the last several days. The old folks have been a bit busy, but we've been relegated to our necessary walks. This was not so a few days ago. When we were still in Saint Ann, we went for a ride, looking for a place to swim. There is a beautiful river that flows through the area and we were hoping for a romp in the water. When we finally got to a beautiful spot in the river, the Mom saw a "NO DOGS" sign. Would you believe the racism of these French Canadians? With no other options the Dad drove back to the campground and evidently decided to let us swim in the ocean or the seaway, or what ever it is. Trust me, it's WATER!!! He opened the back of the Jeep and turned us loose, so Jodie and I raced to the water. Just between the two of us, Jodie can outrun me, but not when we're heading for water. I was first in and first out. The Dad was still a long way off as he is slow by human standards, but snail-like by mine. So I was able to dash in and out of the water a couple of times before he got to the beach. I noticed some great smelling snacks along the beach and managed to snag two or three before he got there. Yum!!!

Dad tried to get us away from the snacks by throwing a stick in the water. I wanted to continue eating, but I couldn't fight the need to swim out and get the stick. Over and over this occurred and I hardly had a chance to eat another bite, though I did manage to get one or two.

Yes, she managed to get a few more fish when I took the stick and kept it away from her. She likes to retrieve but not play keep-a-way, so she quickly gave up and went back to the fish, but she paid for it later. We weren't in the water very long when we were brought back to the camper and give warm baths. Oh how I love a warm bath, especially the brisk toweling afterward.

Later that evening, the fish I ate started percolating inside my stomach and I didn't feel so well. Does the term "sick as a dog" mean anything to you? I lost my supper. The next morning I lost my breakfast. Worst of all, I wasn't allowed on the bed. All I could do is lay around. I would have moaned if I could have, but stoic that I am, I just lay there quietly. The next time I eat off the beach, I'll try to make sure that the fish is fresher.

Now for the bright side. With Coco seven sheets to the wind, I was able to get all the attention I deserve. Coco would just lay on the floor, so I'd go to Mom and have a long scratching session. Then, when she's tire I'd go to Dad and roll over and get my belly scratched. Back and forth, back and forth, I'm really a glutton for attention, AAAhhhhhh!

She's Busted Again!!!!

My naughty comrade has been busted again. No, they didn't catch her in the grass. This time they caught her raiding the cookie box. We get a super sized Milk Bone biscuit every night. They are kept in a box under the edge of the bed. It's a tight fit and the old folks thought it would be secure. Ha!! That's a joke. Coco is not some dumb chocolate! Last week she got the box out and finished off all the cookies that were left. She didn't get sick because there were not many cookies left. So the folks put out a new box, only this time they didn't cut the top of the box. They'd slide the box out, open it up, and give us each a cookie. Then they'd close the lids and slide the box back, safe and secure....or so they thought. I unwittingly gave it away because I heard the crunch of cookies being eaten and got up to investigate. I'm a big cookie fan, too. Well,Mom saw me and went to check it out. She caught Coco red pawed. The great cookie caper is over for now as they are now stored in the shower.

You know, Jodie, you can be a big pain in the tail! If you'd had half a brain, you could have quietly come in and helped yourself to some of the cookies. I did all the work of getting the box out and opening the lids. There was plenty to go around. Who wants to stop at just one. It's like humans and Lays potato chips or me and grass. Our two legged waiters think they have beaten me, but I keep my eyes open. One of these days the shower will be cleaned out to use as a shower and they will take the cookies out without much thought. I can easily fill up while one is busy in the shower. Every dog has her day and it's not the fastest dog that wins the race. Persistence! Persistence! Persistence!
